Solid Front Axle Swap on a 1992 Toyota Independent Front Suspension 4runner

Continuing on Saturday August 15, 2009
Step 3: Prepare the area around the IFS mounting hardware on the frame for cutting.
A Plasma torch  is going to make quick work of ridding the frame from all the IFS mounting hardware that is welded on it. You're going to have to be careful not to damage the frame. Leave the burrs for the grinder to make the frame nice and flush later. Lots pf heat gets generated so take care to remove any combustible hardware away and dress for the job. Do not burn down your truck. Dress for the job or you'll get burned.

Step 4: Familiarize yourself with what is going to be cut.
No point cutting off the wrong parts. If you click on the picture on the right I have highlighted some of the pieces that need to come off. Watch the engine mount and don't damage or weaken their hardware. Better make sure leave extra than cut too. much.

Step 5: Carefully cut the extra hardware of with a Plasma torch.
Cut
Cut
In the end you should be left with a pile of cutoff hardware and a frame with burrs that need to be grinded as in the right picture.
